New Look 6723 Redux

Last weekend I put the finishing touches on New Look 6723, version 2, which, believe it or not, has been lying in pieces, waiting to be sewn, since I finished the first version last June.  You may remember that one- the Flamingo Dress.

I made view B again, the sleeveless, boatneck version.  I absolutely love this dress.  It's so simple, yet so pretty.  And it makes me feel deliciously retro when I wear it.

This time I used a Robert Kaufman Asian print quilting cotton that I'd been hoarding for several years, just waiting for the right pattern.  I bought it with a dress in mind, but I had to find something simple enough to let the print shine.  I think this dress works just fine.

I cut this out last June right after making the Flamingo dress, so no changes were made since the first version.  (One half inch FBA, size 14 through the shoulders, 16 from bust down.)

The bodice is lined edge to edge with coral Imperial broadcloth and the back closes with an ivory invisible zipper and a hook and eye.  I finished the hem with bias tape.

I love the way this turned out.  The print just makes me happy every time I look at it.

I've put this pattern away for now, but I may get it out again sometime.  I'd still love to make a dressy version in satin with a little jewelled belt like the model on the envelope.  Maybe in red or emerald green for Christmas.  I would narrow the shoulders ever so slightly (my boatneck gapes a tiny bit) and raise the armholes about 5/8" for a bit more coverage.  Oh, and I'd add about 1/2" of length at the waist.

There are more sewing projects to share, but it's too hot to take photos except in the evenings.  At least I can sew comfortably in the air conditioning!  If I think about sewing for fall do you think it will feel cooler?

Oh I do adore this dress! Thanks for the tips.
I used to wear a dress like this in high school and I made the pattern over and over. However, I have, shall we say, expanded over the years and need a new version of the dress. I will get this one! Thank you!!

Such a pretty little dress--so feminine, and retro looking. Lovely. I am sick of summer's high temperatures. Fall can't come soon enough for me!

That is such a happy dress and it looks SO good on you! It has a great retro look to it without being old-fashioned. Love your fabric choice, too.
